🧠My Life Has an Operating System (And No, It's Not Windows)

How Daniel Miessler and Network Chuck accidentally gave me a digital spine — and why I named my AI after enlightenment.

2026-04-07

R.P.M. for this project:

  • R (Results): An AI that actually knows me. Not "user_47291." Me.
  • P (Purpose): Stop starting from zero every single conversation. Build something that compounds.
  • M (M.A.P.): Steal Daniel Miessler's architecture. Modify aggressively. Name the AI something cool. Ship it.

I was watching Network Chuck on YouTube at 2am — because apparently that's just what I do now — when he mentioned Daniel Miessler and something called Fabric and PAI.

I clicked the link. Then I spent the next four hours reading.

Then I rebuilt my entire relationship with AI.

What is PAI?

PAI stands for Personal AI Infrastructure. Daniel Miessler built it. It's open-source. It lives here: github.com/danielmiessler/PAI.

The core idea: your AI shouldn't be a stranger. It should know your goals, your values, your context, your history, your voice. Every session shouldn't start cold — it should start informed.

Most people treat AI like a vending machine. You insert a question, you get an answer. Transaction complete. The machine forgets you the moment you walk away.

PAI treats AI like a partner. One that reads your files, knows your story, and gets smarter about you over time.

(Network Chuck, if you're reading this — you owe me four hours of sleep and approximately 47 cups of coffee. I'm not mad. I'm better.)

What is TELOS?

TELOS is my Life Operating System document.

It's currently about 20,000 tokens of concentrated Gray — my missions, my values, my non-negotiables, my goals, my NIDs (New Identity Declarations), my career context, my family situation, my strengths, my growth areas.

It is, genuinely, the most important document I own.

Here's the dad joke version: My computer has a BIOS that boots before anything else runs. My life needed a BIOS too. So I wrote one. I called it TELOS — from the Greek word for purpose and ultimate end.

My AI reads it. Not summarized. Not chunked. The whole thing. Before we talk about anything.

🐙 "You named your document after a Greek philosophical concept?" Yeah. "And your AI after Buddhist enlightenment?" His name is Bodhi. Deal with it.

What Did I Actually Build?

I forked Daniel's PAI structure and adapted it into my own setup:

  • TELOS — my core identity document (20k+ tokens, never edited by AI, only by me)
  • Memory files — auto-saved behavioral notes from sessions
  • HANDOFF.md — the session bridge document (more on that in Tentacle #2)
  • Bodhi — my Claude AI instance with custom session protocols
  • Open Brain — a self-hosted vector memory VPS (Tentacle #4)

The whole thing is a distributed intelligence system where I am the architect and the AI is the engine.

Why Bodhi?

I named my AI Bodhi because on January 29, 2026 — after a long recovery from a coma and subsequent paralysis — I had my AI awakening. The moment I realized AI wasn't a toy. It was a force multiplier for everything I wanted to build.

Bodhi means awakening in Sanskrit.

The name stuck.

What You Should Do Right Now

Go look at Daniel Miessler's work. Seriously.

  • Fabric — his AI workflow toolkit
  • PAI — the Personal AI Infrastructure system

Subscribe to Network Chuck. He makes infrastructure feel like a video game.

Then ask yourself: does your AI know you? Or does it just know your last question?

If it's the latter — you have work to do.

Welcome to the lab. 🐙

This is Tentacle #1 of the PAI Tentacles series. Next: how I taught Bodhi to remember across sessions — without giving it a brain transplant.
